Terms of service

Terms of Service

Last updated: October 28, 2026

Welcome to Dex — the language discovery camera built for curious kids and caring families. These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and Worldex Lab, Inc. ("Dex," "we," "our," or "us"). They cover your use of the Dex device, the Dex parent app, our website at dex.camera, and any related content or services (together, the "Services").

By using our Services, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the Services.

These Terms, our Privacy Policy, and any additional terms we provide (including our limited hardware warranty and our Refund Policy) together form the entire agreement between you and Dex regarding the Services and should be read together. If there is a direct conflict between them that cannot be reconciled, the following order of precedence applies:

  • as to the collection, use, disclosure, retention, security, or deletion of personal information — including any personal information relating to a child — our Privacy Policy controls;

  • as to a subject specifically addressed by a separate agreement — such as hardware repair or replacement under our limited hardware warranty, or cancellations and refunds under our Refund Policy — that agreement controls as to that subject; and

  • for all other matters, these Terms control.

A document that provides greater detail on a topic supplements, and does not conflict with, the others. A conflict exists only where the provisions cannot be given effect together.

1. Who Can Use Dex

Account holders must be 18 or older. The Services are offered to adults who can enter into a legally binding contract. As a parent or guardian ("Account Holder"), you are responsible for creating and managing the Dex account, and for all activity that takes place under it.

The Dex device is designed for children ages 3–8, under ongoing adult supervision. By giving a child access to Dex, you confirm that you are their parent or legal guardian, or have obtained verifiable parental consent, and that you'll ensure they use Dex in line with these Terms.

2. Accounts & Security

Registration. To access the full Dex experience, you'll need to create an account with accurate, up-to-date information.

Your credentials are your responsibility. Keep your login details private. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

Your setup. You are responsible for any internet connection, data plan, or compatible hardware needed to use the Services.

3. License & Acceptable Use

What we grant you. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Dex firmware, software, and content for personal, non-commercial use in accordance with these Terms.

What you agree not to do. You agree not to copy, modify, or create derivative works of any part of the Services; reverse engineer or decompile the software; sell or sublicense the Services; bypass any security measures; or use the Services in any way that could harm a child or violate applicable law.

4. Pre-Release Devices

If you've received an engineering prototype or pre-release Dex device, please note:

  • Prototypes are not final consumer products and may not be FCC-certified

  • They are provided "as is" for evaluation only

  • We may remotely update, disable, or wipe any prototype device at our discretion

  • Title to prototypes remains with Dex unless explicitly transferred

  • We may ask for your feedback, which we can use without restriction or compensation

5. Purchases, Pre-Orders & Payment

Pre-orders. By placing a pre-order, you authorize us to charge the payment method provided. Estimated ship dates are not guaranteed.

Refunds. You may cancel a pre-order for a full refund before the unit ships. For shipped products, our standard Refund Policy applies.

Taxes & shipping. Prices shown exclude applicable taxes, duties, and shipping, which are added at checkout.

6. Your Content

What counts as your content. Any photos, audio clips, or other material you or your child creates or uploads through the Services is "User Content."

You keep ownership. You retain ownership of your User Content. To operate the Services, you grant Dex a worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, process and display your User Content for the purposes of providing the Services to you. We use your User Content to improve the Services only as described in our Privacy Policy — and where this involves your child's photos or audio, only if you turn on the optional "Help Dex Improve" setting..

Service and Diagnostic Data. Separately from your User Content, we collect and use operational and diagnostic data about how the Services perform — including device performance, connectivity and upload/download times, error and crash logs, and usage metrics — to operate, secure, analyze, and improve the Services and to develop new features. We may also create and use de-identified or aggregated data for any legitimate business purpose. This data is handled as described in our Privacy Policy.

Content involving children. For User Content created by or featuring your own child, you confirm that you are the child's parent or legal guardian (or have obtained verifiable parental consent) and that you have the authority to grant the license described in this section.

Content involving other people. Because Dex is a camera, your child may sometimes capture other people — including other children — in the background of a photo or recording. You agree to supervise your child's use of Dex and to use it responsibly, and not to use Dex to intentionally photograph or record other people (a) where they would reasonably expect privacy, such as bathrooms, changing areas, or inside another person's home, or (b) where doing so would infringe their rights or violate applicable law. You are responsible for all User Content captured through your account, and the indemnity in Section 14 applies to any third-party claim arising from that content.

How we handle incidental images of others. Dex is designed to identify objects, not people. We do not use facial recognition to identify bystanders, and we do not create face or voice profiles of people who appear incidentally in your child's photos or recordings. Our Privacy Policy describes how this content is processed and deleted.

7. Privacy & Children's Data

Our full Privacy Policy explains how we collect and use personal information — please read it carefully.

Voice & photos. By default, voice is processed through OpenAI Whisper , and the audio is deleted the moment it's been transcribed — it's never stored. Optional cloud processing requires separate verifiable parental consent. When your child takes a photo, it's sent to OpenAI Vision to identify the object and return the word in your chosen language. The image is deleted immediately after the label is returned — we do not store a copy on our servers unless you specifically turn on Cloud Media Storage in the Copilot app.

COPPA compliance. We design our practices to comply with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar laws. Where requirements differ across jurisdictions, we follow the stricter standard.

8. Intellectual Property

All content, software, and features within the Services are owned by Dex and its licensors. "Dex," the Dex logo, and related marks are trademarks of Worldex Lab, Inc. — please don't use them without our written permission.

9. Firmware & Software Updates

We may automatically download and install updates to your Dex device or app to improve safety and performance. By using the Services, you consent to these updates, which may change or remove certain features.

10. Third-Party Services

Some features may display or link to third-party content (such as Wikipedia excerpts). Dex does not endorse or control these services and is not responsible for their content or practices.

11. Safety

Dex is an educational tool — not a toy for unsupervised play, and not a medical or safety device. Please don't allow children to use Dex while crossing streets, near water, or in other hazardous situations. Keep cords and small parts away from children under 3.

12. Warranty Disclaimer

Except as set out in a separate limited hardware warranty, the Services are provided "as is" and "as available." To the maximum extent permitted by law, Dex disclaims all warranties — express, implied, or statutory — including those of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

13. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Dex will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages. Our total liability to you will not exceed the greater of (a) amounts you paid to Dex in the 12 months before the claim or (b) $100 USD.

14. Indemnification

You agree to defend and hold harmless Dex and its affiliates from any claim arising out of your use or misuse of the Services, your User Content, or your breach of these Terms.

15. Dispute Resolution & Arbitration

Please read this section carefully — it affects your legal rights.

Any dispute between you and Dex will be resolved by binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules. Arbitration will take place in San Francisco, California, unless we agree otherwise.

Class action waiver. Disputes must be brought individually. You and Dex each waive the right to participate in a class action or representative proceeding.

Opt-out. You may opt out of arbitration by sending written notice to legal@dex.camera within 30 days of first accepting these Terms.

16. Termination

Termination by you. You may stop using the Services and close your account at any time through the Dex parent app or by contacting us at support@dex.camera.

Termination by us. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Services at any time if you violate these Terms or if we believe it's necessary to protect a child’s safety,  the security or integrity of our network, or the rights of others. Where practical and lawful, we will give you notice.

Effect on the device. Some Dex features depend on our cloud services and cellular connectivity. If your access is suspended or terminated, some or all device functionality may stop working.

What happens to your data. Following termination, we will delete or de-identify your account information and your User Content in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable law. You may request deletion of your child's personal information at any time as described in our Privacy Policy, and verified deletion requests are processed within the timeframe stated there. We may retain de-identified or aggregated data, and any records we are legally required or permitted to keep.

Effect on licenses. All licenses we grant to you under these Terms end immediately upon termination, and the license you grant us over your User Content ends except as needed to complete deletion or as described in our Privacy Policy.

Survival. Sections that by their nature should survive will survive termination — including Intellectual Property, Warranty Disclaimer, Limitation of Liability, Indemnification, Dispute Resolution & Arbitration, Governing Law, and General.

17. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll let you know via email or an in-app notice. Continued use of the Services after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

18. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.

19. General

If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in full effect. Our failure to enforce any right isn't a waiver of future enforcement.
